I offer a variety of consultation services to parents, therapeutic riding centers and instructors as well as clinical mentoring for therapists involved in hippotherapy. I am available for speaking engagements, in-services on equine assisted activities and therapy and as an AHA. Inc, Faculty member teaching the Sensory Connections course.
Currently, I am offering free video consultation to parents with children in therapeutic riding or hippotherapy. Free video consultation involves viewing and a written review of up to three thirty minute videos of your childs’ riding or therapy session, written email discussion of my observations after each video submission and a professional letter for the riding instructor or therapist if desired.
I am available to consult for therapeutic riding program for participant assessment. I offer consultations in person and online. In order to asses a participant I need access to medical paperwork with permission from the participant and to visually assess them in person or via videotaping. This option allows programs expert advice on participant assessment and instruction for those with limited access to expert consultation locally. A riding instructor may also seek consultation services for a participant or class they are teaching. I am able to provide feedback on safety, participant skills and behavior, instruction skills and group lesson management. Consultation can be completed via phone calls, email or through video exchange. For my fee schedule please email me at info@horsescanhelp.com
Clinical Consultation involves an outside therapist to provide information, techniques, and skills to another therapist who is providing direct services. Depending upon the level of support needed we can meet weekly, biweekly, or monthly. Meetings can be in-person, via phone or email and may include videotapes of treatment sessions. Practitioners using hippotherapy as a treatment strategy may feel isolated or may be the only therapist at a therapeutic riding center or riding stable- clinical consultation allows you to have a place to discuss your concerns and treatments. During our meetings we discuss your client situations, information about relevant theories and research, possible interventions, identify challenges and solutions or resources, as well as celebrate your successes. Treating in this unique environment can sometimes feel isolated, but with video mentoring you can improve your skills and feel more competent in your treatments. Consultation can be short or long-term. Long-term consultation offers many benefits – an opportunity to develop a trusting relationship that facilitates a deeper level of trust and improved professional development. Many professionals who seek online consultation say that they find the medium of writing conducive to their learning style; that they like consulting from their homes or offices; and that they can be more open about their difficulties and clinical questions – that they talk about things that they might not otherwise. If you have any questions about clinical consultation with me, feel free to email me. I’ll answer any questions you have about my services or me free of charge.
Coming soon: Hippotherapy Mentoring Circle: The Hippotherapy Mentoring Circle is a way to connect with other professionals that incorporate horses into their professional practice. The Hippotherapy Mentoring Circle is primarily an online experience, but also seeks to connect members in real life. This work environment often has unique challenges compared with clinical or school based therapy. Therapists may be the only medical service providers at a facility, may work for a non-profit, therapy clinic or volunteer their services. Each of these work environments has unique qualities- chats grouped around work environments allows participants a time and place to share about the differences between working for a non-profit or being a contract therapist. Our partners, the horses, also come with their own rewards and challenges. Having a good understanding of our partners is essential to providing effective and safe therapy and the Hippotherapy Mentoring Circle allows all participants to share their experiences and for novice horse people to learn from more experienced horse men and women.
